Short version: AstroTool collects nothing. No account, no tracking, no analytics, no ads. Your location is used only on-device to calculate the sky above you and is never transmitted anywhere. Your session data lives only on your device.
1. Information We Collect
AstroTool does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information. Specifically:
- No name, email address, or account is required or requested
- No usage analytics or crash reporting services are integrated
- No advertising SDKs are included
- No third-party tracking of any kind is present in the app
2. Location Data
AstroTool requests access to your device location for one purpose only: to calculate the positions of stars, planets, the Sun, and Moon as seen from where you are standing.
- Location is used entirely on-device — it is never sent to any server
- Location is never stored beyond the current app session
- You can deny location access; the app will use a default location with reduced accuracy
AstroTool uses iOS location permission level When In Use. It never requests background location access.
3. Data You Create
The Session Logger lets you record observing sessions, capture details, and equipment profiles. This data:
- Is stored only on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework
- Is never uploaded, synced to any server, or accessible by us
- Can be exported as plain text at any time using the share button in the Session Logger
- Is deleted when you delete the app
4. In-App Purchases
AstroTool offers a one-time in-app purchase to unlock premium features. All purchase transactions are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not process, store, or have access to any payment information. Apple's privacy policy governs all purchase-related data.
5. Notifications
AstroTool may request permission to send local notifications for upcoming astronomical events (meteor showers, oppositions, conjunctions, moon phases). These notifications are:
- Scheduled entirely on-device — no server involvement
- Never used for marketing or promotional purposes
- Fully controllable via iOS Settings → Notifications → AstroTool
6. Children's Privacy
AstroTool does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13. Since no data is collected at all, there is nothing to distinguish by age.
7. Changes to This Policy
If this privacy policy changes materially, the effective date at the top of this page will be updated. We will never introduce data collection, advertising, or tracking without clearly disclosing it here first.
